If those who are filthy rich also ask for textbooks on loan, then it is ridiculous, said Rengasamy who said selfish parents resorted to such antics.

Rengasamy, who welcome the ministry's decision to revoke its move, said the loan scheme is meant for the poor, adding that the "ministry's generosity should not be taken advantage by the greedy ones.

"Just allow the under-privileged to be given this benefit. As for parents who are financially stable, please do not try to take advantage," said Rengasamy.
